Around the District - October 2021

Rotary International is partnering with our friends at Kiwanis International, Lions Clubs International, and Optimist International to increase our collective impact through community service.

Celebrate Community is a weeklong service event taking place 10-16 October. During this time, Rotary, Rotaract, Kiwanis, Lions, and Optimist clubs are encouraged to collaborate with one another to complete a service project that benefits the community. Work with your fellow service club members to determine how you can best help your community, such as:
  • Cleaning up a park, highway, or waterway
  • Planting trees
  • Collecting nonperishable food for food pantries or clothing for homeless shelters
  • Packing meals
  • Harvesting a community garden
  • Reading to children at the local library
  • Volunteering at a local animal shelter
Whatever you choose to do, tell us about it! Tag @Rotary on social media to let us — and your neighbors — know how you’re giving back and celebrating community through service.

Use the club finder tool on the KiwanisLions, and Optimist websites to find a club near you.

I hope this is one of many opportunities for our four organizations to collaborate and serve. We all want to do good in the world, and we can do even more when we do it together.

            1:00     Tournament of Champions Starts

WHERE:         WOW! ZONE, 2030 Adams Street, Mankato, MN

COVID precautions – Masks are preferred for this event.

Each club in the District will select ONE PERSON to represent them at the tournament. Teams will be formed by the event host on the day of the event or you can form our own team of four people representing District clubs. Guests are invited to come and cheer on their clubs Designated Bowler.

HOW TO RAISE FUNDS
  1. Collect Pledges for pins knocked down and let us know your total.
  2. Ask each club member to help the DESIGNATED BOWLER raise funds on their clubs behalf asking family and friends for their support. This is a great way to get out the Rotary Polio Plus message.

Example of Funds Raised:
If Club A has 30 members and each member raises $100 the Designated Bowler will raise $3,000 for the event on behalf of their club.

If 60 clubs participate and each club raises at least $1000 as a club, we will have raised $60,000 for Polio Plus. This would be our minimum goal.

As you can see from this example, the sky is the limit based on how each club participates together to support their Designated Bowler.

So the BIG QUESTION, who will be your DESIGNATED BOWLER?

To Register your Designated Bowler please email pam@wowzonefec.com or call her at 507-381-4279 by October 17th. Or please feel free to call Pam if you have any questions about the event.
PDG Tom Yuzer (1996-97) has joined the ranks of D5960 Rotarians who have opted for sun instead of snow from November to April.  “Many of us have found a second Rotary home while enjoying a warm, sunny day instead of a cold winter day,” he said, “and I believe we should show our true Midwest Rotary service attitude down south.”

So if you spend a couple of weeks or months in either the Phoenix or Tucson area, Yuzer is ready to get us together.  Send your winter contact info, dates and location to the district office via SurveyMonkey Link (Click Here) and we will set up a data drop so we can find each other.  Or reach out to Tom Yuzer at 951-805-4468 or t-yuze@umn.edu with your suggestions.
